Music Marketing

For our genre, me and my group got Pop. The first thing we did was search current trends in the pop industry to try get an idea of what we need to follow and what is currently trending. After that, we researched how some famous Pop stars came to fame, and what they had to do to get to their current status. Something that really helped us was watching YouTube/documentaries about their lives to know how they started getting into music and what they did to get to that A level status that they currently hold. We also researched their companies/labels that they work for. Something that greatly helped us with this were the research charts that we made about different pop artist.

In Pop, we saw many feminine trends with men going on, so that is the approach we decided to take with ours. He is going to be soft and have a lover boy type of vibe. We are going to make him start off by singing in bars and schools, and mostly small places, due to his unknown status that will progress. We will have poster boards with his name and @'s on all social medias so that people can check him out and he can get more popular and grow.

For the music video process, we decided to go with a lovey type of video to not only match his personality, but to also match the song, as it is mostly about love. After releasing the video, our artist will continue growing, selling posters and merch, and going on tour with big name artist like Harry Styles and The Weeknd.

Zootopia Representation Blog

Zootopia is a movie with various amounts of representation. One example of representation in the film would be how predators are stereotyped as being savages. On Nick and Judy's first interaction, she took out her pepper spray, when Nick was doing nothing but ordering an ice cream. Even after Judy works with Nick and sees he is not bad at all, she still feels threatened when he says he might go "savage" after she disrespects all predators and takes out her fox spray to attack just in case he tries anything. Nick is not the only victim who falls into stereotyping. All throughout the movie, predators are often inaccurately stereotyped, as the 14 missing mammal cases are all viewed as savages due to it "being in their biology".  After Judy gives the speech, prey and predators break apart, creating you vs us situation, which increases the perception that predators will become savage due to their nature. The dynamic between stereotypes in predators can directly correlate with real-life stereotyping of minorities in our society. Just like in the movie, most police have a false image created on minority groups and tend to attack and blame them for more, creating more stereotypes.

Another example of stereotyping in the film would be the stereotyping of prey. Throughout the first portion of Zootopia, most people including her parents doubted Judy's decision in becoming a police and often times told her to "stick to the carrot farm". One example would be when Judy was younger and was bullied by a fox named Gideon Gray and he would tell her how bunnies could never get to the status she wanted, a police officer. Another example of prey stereotyping is when Judy walks in on her first day and automatically has to explain to her coworker Benjamin Clawhauser how he cannot call her cute because its weird when anyone else calls bunnies cute. The last example would be how Judy only got to be a meter maid and had to bet on her job just to get a big case rather then something small due to her being profiled and "not being fit for an officer".

The film also portrays racism and the trauma that comes with it. In the film, Nick always acts nonchalant when being told something just because he is a fox. When he was younger, he wanted to be part of a Boy Scouts but was quickly shut off and bullied out of it when he went to the first meeting and got pinned down and a muzzle put on him just for being a fox. He quickly learned that he will always be perceived this way, and starts to not care what people say. The film also shows us a clip of a bunny moving her daughter away from a tiger, teaching her daughter division. We also get to see predators protesting for their rights as they started being mistreated just for being predators, and how Benjamin Clawhauser was moved from the front desk as "the first face people cannot see is a predator." Unfortunately, for most people, this is a reality, as they are bullied, separated, not given proper positions, and have to fight for their rights just because of their race.

The movie also represents various racial dynamics. One example of this would be when Judy Hopps Told Benjamin Clawhauser how other bunnies can call each other cute, but its weird when others do it. This is a parallel to racial slurs in the real world, and how other should not say them. Another example would be when Judy tells Nick how he can just touch a sheep's wool, which is something African Americans go through all the time with their curly hair. Both of these examples are parallels things that happen with different minority groups.

Genre Research Activity Andreina Salvadore Period 8

The genre that I have chosen is romance. When watching romances, you not only get to see the characters grow as people, but you get to see their love develop on screen. Two famous movie directors for romance would be Jon M. Chu, who created various heartfelt shows and movies touching the hearts of many, and Nora Ephron, the best claim-heart-felt women directors in history, it is often said that her romances formed the standards for many other romance films. For romance, the typical age group is 12–24-year-olds, 85% of those consisting of women.

Intimacy is one of the elements in the romance genre. The literal definition of intimacy would be closeness, which is shown on screen in many movies. Intimacy is used in many romance films to show the pure connections along with lust that the characters carry out for each other. This is key in a romance to show how the characters truly care for one another, leaving viewers in awe to their display of touch. A great example of this would be the 2015 film “50 Shades of Gray, where the two characters show many displays of intimacy to each other, from lust-filled ones to pure heart-felt moments.

In a classic romance, there is always a part where the two main characters distance themselves from each other, due to misunderstandings, fights, and or forced distances. This is used to build suspense in this genre, due to the viewers wanting the endings that they expect and plot in their heads. This part of romance films is vital as they leave the viewers in shock and doubt about whether the characters will make up and end up together. One example of this would be in the 1999 film "10 Things I Hate About You" where the main character, Kat Stratford, gets mad at a guy she truly loved, Patrick Verona, due to finding out he got paid to take her out. This scene leaves viewers shaken and hanging on to their seats, trying to figure out whether or not they are going to reconcile.

Another element of romance would be slow pacing. As tiring as slow pacing is, it is key to a romance due to the evolution of the pure sentimental feelings that the audience needs to develop along with the characters. Directors do this so that the audience can go through this relationship with the characters and give a realistic time stamp of a true relationship. One example of this would be "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days."

One of the most popular production techniques for romance is music. The music in the back can help form the scene in many different ways, by guiding us directly through the story or telling us things that the characters quite can't get across. In romance, music can also be used to tell the emotions of characters, without needing dialogue to express the scene. One example of this would be the 2016 film "La La Land". In this film, there are many scenes where the characters do not speak, yet you are able to tell the feelings of the film as the music conveys what the scene feels and what the characters feel.

Another popular production technique for romance would be the shots. In many cases, there are several shots that are repeated in movies to show connections between the love interest. One key example would be two shots. Many times, in romance films, two-shots are used to show the intimate relationships between the lovers.

For marketing, in romance, many posters use the lead male and female on the front cover. Usually, in these posters, many times both leads are near and or touching each other, signifying their romantic relationship. One example would the 1997 film "Titanic" Another example of marketing for romance would be the trailers. In these trailers, if the romance is based on a novel it is mentioned, marketing both the novel and movie. In the trailer, there is always a cliffhanger left in the end to suspense and get more viewers. One example would be the 2017 film "Call Me By Your Name"

The Notebook is a film that follows the love story of two main characters, Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams), and

Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling). This story shows the love between a rich girl and a poor boy who works for all he has. At first, Noah kept trying to get the attention of Allie, but all his attempts were met with failure, that was until she accepted him and they spent a wonderful summer together. They both know that they are meant for each other until Allie's mom finds out that she is with Noah, a poor boy. The mom quickly disapproves, escalating the situation. Noah hears all of this and decides to tell Allie they need a break, not for him, but so her family would not be disappointed in her. She quickly gets angry, breaking up with him, going as far as hitting his car as he he driving away. The day after their fight,  she realizes that they are leaving, and going back home. She quickly rushes to find Noah, only to be met by the fact that he is not there. She asks a friend to say her goodbyes and leaves. Noah finds out, and in a moment of panic tries to find her. After realizing she is gone, he writes her letters every day for 365 days. He also restores his old farmhouse. He is posted on the newspaper. Catching Allie's eye, knowing she needed to find him again. The only problem is that Allie is married to another man at the time. After spending 2 days with him, she knows they are meant to be, talking to her husband and ultimately leaving him for Noah. This movie shows the romance genre by showing the elements of slow pacing, intimacy, distance, and music. The slow pacing is used all throughout the movie, as the characters do not reconcile until the very end, fighting mostly through the movie. There are also many intimate scenes in the movie, showing that the characters not only love each other but have a true and pure connection with each other. In this movie poster, you can also see how both characters are showing displays of intimacy, as they are close together, touching each other, and about to kiss.

500 Days of Summer is a love story, but not a typical one. Although most love stories end with happy

endings and both love interests end up together, this one is different. This story starts out with a man named Tom Hansen ( Joseph Gordon) and Summer (Zooey Deschanel) where it is told from Tom's point of view. It follows their love story and shows 500 days of total drama coming from both of them. There are many elements of romance coming from this movie, including a lot of intimacy. Even though this story does not end in a typical romantic way, with both Summer and Tom going their separate ways, it can also be used to teach several lessons in romance. In the poster, you can see both Tom and Summer close together, conversing, with smiles on their faces. The most important thing in the poster would be what is behind them, showing a collage of Summer, portraying as if they are memories.

Sound Blog

My project was about a chef who gets an order, which happens to be an omelet. In the project, you get to see the whole process that the chef goes through with while making this order. At one point, he leaves the kitchen unattended while the stove was on, and the whole kitchen catches on fire. You can hear him hitting it with a rag, then pouring water, and then getting the fire extinguisher and taking out the fire with a final sigh.

Project outline: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bPK_r7LvKKiESUuafVYS31Ep6v5dwbfIZLvxxKmmcqw/edit?usp=sharing

First, me and my partner went through many different ideas on trying to figure out what we should make for our project. After going to the teacher, we realized our first idea was too bland, so we decided to make one where the kitchen would catch on fire. After getting our idea approved, me and my partner went through the process of picking out sounds to represent our project.

After picking out all the sounds, we came up with the conclusion that I would make the foley sounds, while my partner would edit the project, as I had no experience editing. Then, I went home and over the weekend I made the foley sounds, sent it to my partner, and he started editing. Then, he sent me the project, I told him he needed to fix some things, and we submitted it.

Camer Shots/Angles Quiz

For the Camera Shots/Angles Quiz, you were paired up with a partner. In this activity, we had to find an inanimate object and create a story using 15 different angles or shots. You were given the first 8, and then had to pick the last 7. After you had to put everything together in PowerPoint OR Google Slides, while describing each and every shot or angle, and why it is used.

For my project, I used mine and my partners water bottle. My story was that you can make friends no matter where you are, and that you are never alone. We tried our best to display the story with our shots and angles, and also the setting.

Some things I did well in this project is taking the photos and getting the angles right. I feel like this was difficult for me due to never having taken photos in this manner so to see that I did it right gave me confidence. Something I could've improved on was writing the descriptions and having a clearer story plot.
